However, these well-sculpted pieces of steel don’t act on their own volition. They need you (the pilot) to steer them and engage their existing war systems to defeat in-game foes.  The tunes accompanying gameplay are upbeat, giving you the much-needed morale boost for war. And the game doesn’t waste much time transporting you to a war-torn map (AKA battlefield). In the space hanger visible upon launch, there’s a “TO BATTLE” icon with different arrows pointing directly to it, informing you that there are wars that require your input. Click on it, and you’re immediately transported to an in-game battle.  When the war starts, you aren’t alone. You’ll encounter allies with the same goal — defeat the enemy by any means possible. Although some of your partners might veer off into the distance, keep your eyes peeled as enemies (with the “red” cursors) will come into view. The controls on War Robots are easy to grasp. For mobile players, a virtual analog icon aids movement at the bottom left of your screen. Adjacent to it lies your weapon and targeting system that lets you use your robot’s gun or missile architecture to destroy invading bots. After each battle, you’ll receive a reward. And guess what? You can increase your stash by watching an advert — typical of most internet-based games. Once you’ve done that, you can view your rankings on the allied team’s leaderboard; the game also provides context on enemy players and how many points they gathered from the battle. Back at the hangar, you can quickly upgrade or change your robot for the next battle. Improvements are based on tiers, and executing them will increase your robot’s speed and hit points. Furthermore, you can change your robot’s weapon profile and color at the hanger. Note that color switches aren’t just regular sprays but feature unique designs to increase your robot’s overall aesthetic. One unique thing we love about War Robots is that you can change robots without fulfilling many requirements or purchasing in-game packs with real money.  After your first battle, you’ll find a slot in the hangar. Opening it grants you access to faster and more powerful bots. Although most feature steep prices, you can purchase the first five for decent amounts. Thank you, Pixonic! Once you purchase a new robot, it’ll be added to your hangar. And for any battle, all you need to do is tap on the variation of your choice. If you’d like to unlock sophisticated robots and other significant in-game add-ons without hassles, you must dole out physical funds to expedite the process. But guess what? It’ll be worthwhile. Bottom Line We loved War Robots by Pixonic. For us, it triggered nostalgic memories as it shared some similarities with the Autobots and Decepticons saga that characterized the “Transformers” franchise. Here, players must defeat the enemy — this time, however, for in-game tokens. Gameplay never gets boring, with War Robots integrating 14 unique maps.
